The Night the Drought Ended: Remembering the 2016 Cubs Victory

If you’re a Chicago Cubs fan, November 2, 2016 is a date you’ll never forget. After 108 long years, the Cubs finally won the World Series and ended one of the most talked-about droughts in sports history. For generations, Cubs fans carried both hope and heartbreak, waiting for the day when the “Lovable Losers” would finally become champions again. That night in Cleveland, it finally happened.

The final out of Game 7 was more than just a victory. It was a release. Families gathered together, tears flowed, strangers hugged in Wrigleyville, and fireworks lit up the Chicago sky. For many, it wasn’t just about baseball. It was about loyalty, patience, and the belief that someday, the Cubs would have their moment. And they did.

The Legacy of the Cubs and Their Fans

What makes the Chicago Cubs so unique is the bond between the team, the city, and its fans. Wrigley Field isn’t just a ballpark. It’s a landmark of history, where stories have been told and retold across generations. From the ivy-covered walls to the roar of the crowd singing “Go Cubs Go,” being a Cubs fan is about more than following a team. It’s about belonging to a community that knows both struggle and joy.

The 2016 championship reminded the world why Cubs fans are some of the most dedicated in all of sports. That win wasn’t just a title. It was a gift to every fan who had ever cheered through the ups and downs, and to those who never stopped believing.

Capturing the Energy in Art

Moments like that don’t fade easily, and as an artist, I’ve always felt inspired to capture the colors, energy, and emotion of Cubs baseball. The roar of the crowd, the sea of blue, the electricity of Wrigley Field on game day, these are feelings you can almost see.

That’s what I wanted to express through my artwork: not just a game, but the spirit of Chicago baseball. Using bold colors and an impressionist style, I’ve created a few new pieces that celebrate what it means to be a Cubs fan. Each one is my way of translating that unforgettable energy onto the canvas.

More Than a Memory

Even though years have passed since the 2016 win, that moment will always stand out in sports history. It proved that patience, loyalty, and belief can finally pay off. Cubs fans waited 108 years, but when the wait ended, it was sweeter than anyone could have imagined.

Today, the Cubs continue to be a symbol of resilience and tradition. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or someone who simply admires the story of perseverance, the Cubs’ victory is a reminder of why we love sports in the first place.

For me, creating Cubs art is not just about painting a team logo or colors. It’s about celebrating the heart of Chicago, the joy of victory, and the memories fans carry with them forever. If you’re a Cubs fan, I hope these pieces bring back that same excitement we all felt in 2016, the night the drought finally ended and the Cubs became champions again.
